You may not be affected by the ordeal between Walgreens or Express scripts but if you know someone that relies on Walgreens to purchase their prescriptions than you are affected.
Express Scripts is part of a network that connect patients with pharmacies in their communities which in return should make it convenient for patients to to and from their neighboring pharmacies making it convenient for them.
Recently, Express Scripts has detached itself from Walgreens and took them out of the network of pharmacies that a lot of patients relied on. This has resulted in many patients having go outside of the network to find another pharmacist because all Walgreens pharmacies nationwide and Duane Reade pharmacies in the New York City area are affected.
This situation is of course frustrating the patients of Walgreens because they are very frustrated. To read further on this issue, take a look at Walgreens and Express Scripts.
In addition, this situation with Express Scripts has also hurt the military and families of people who served in the military. While Walgreens took precedent steps of offering Express Scripts an ironclad guarantee that Walgreens prices would match or beat the average costs per adjusted prescription of all the other pharmacies in the network for military members and their families through a program called Tricare; still Express Scripts declined.
